Space Girl Putting on Her Space Suit

A girl can't get a bit of privacy anywhere, not even in the vastness of space!

Maiko

Hi there! I was really enjoying the way the Chinese headdress painting came out, looking to other ethnic headdresses for inspiration, I thought of Japanese Geishas.  The hair pieces they wear are extremely elaborate works of art.  This painting is of a Maiko, the apprentice of a Geisha.  They have wilder hair pieces and more flamboyant robes.

This is the scanned image...

She has some metallic paint in her hair clips and robe.

I'm still meaning to do an Aztec one and perhaps an Incan one...Stay tuned.

Farewell My Concubine

In keeping with the headdress theme (this type is called a Phoenix Crown LOVE THAT!), I looked to China:

This is the scanned image, can't see metallic paint...

She's for sale in my Etsy shop.  One thing that's interesting about selling original works of art (don't worry, I keep high-res scans of them all), is you feel a tad bit of separation anxiety.  I'm trying to get over it because ultimately I love the idea of making art and moving on to the next piece, without too much sentimentality.  At the same time, I really love this piece (love all my others too!) so I hope she goes to a good home!

I think I'll do an Aztec one next...

More Metallic Ladies

I was looking at headdresses (something I'm a big fan of) because I wanted to use my gold paint. I came across Cecil DeMille's Cleopatra, which got me thinking of the Liz Taylor Cleopatra, and then Aztec, Egyptain and Greek designs! There are so many possibilities for my gold paint!

I can't think of a woman who wouldn't want to wear this.

I gave her shinny eye shadow too, couldn't resist

After the headdress fun, I moved on to my next favorite thing, harem girls...

Metallic Watercolors!!!

I made an amazing discovery the other day: Metallic Paint.  I guess I knew of it's existence but for some reason I have never used it.  I picked up some metallic watercolor, not knowing how well it would work.  I have to say, I am quite pleased with the way it turned out.  It's so pretty in real life. Unfortunately, the scanner doesn't pick up the sparkle (that's rude) so I had to try and capture it with photos.  I don't think photos quite capture it either, it's very shimmery and shiny.  I am going to use it for robot ladies and space scenes but jewelry seemed like a good place to start.

Celebrating Black History Month!

I gotta say, I love a pretty face framed my mountainous hair.  I just love the look of it, so in keeping with that idea I did some paintings:

I was thinking of these while painting them, btw, from the film The Shining. They have left a HUGE impression on me.

Secret Library Rendezvous!

I'm not quite sure what it is that's going on here but it's scandalous, most definitely.

Heaving bosoms and restrictive cravats, oh my.

Is it obvious that I'm currently reading Pride and Prejudice?
